Tony Curtis, far North Coast athlete, finished third in his first spartan race of the season.
“Melbourne turned on a great day with the temperature in the high 20s,” he said.
“I raced in the Super Elite division on Saturday, which is 14km with 25 obstacles.
“It was clear from early on that it was going to be a four-man race for the top three positions.
“We made an early break on the rest of the field as a result of the sandbag carry which was a long downhill and a short sharp uphill.
“Positions change often, depending on proficiency over the obstacles.
“I was thrilled to get a clear round and to finish on the heels of the second place- getter with only a 7-second difference.”
Curtis is sponsored by Fit Farm Training.

His next event is the Our Kids Samson Challenge at Hepburn Park, Goonellabah, this week.
For the first time there will be an individual challenge on Friday followed by the team challenge on Saturday.
